What is a push back rack good for anyway? A push back rack is good for inventory systems that need to follow a LIFO style inventory system. The question that you might be asking yourself about this is what exactly does LIFO mean? We will tell you in the following paragraph. A LIFO style inventory system means that a business does not follow FIFO. FIFO, of course, means first in first out. FIFO is a big deal if you are a business that is in the food industry or is in an industry where potency is an issue. The potency and or the length of time that your product remains viable is tied to a certain timeframe. Therefore, a lot of businesses set up their inventory system so that they can manage their inventory in a timely fashion. A business following the last in first out inventory style system is the exact opposite of the first in first out inventory systems. Therefore, you can say that a business that does not need to follow FIFO follows LIFO. There is nothing wrong with that because not every product has an expiration date. For example, if you are a drone company then it is highly unlikely that your product will expire. True, that your product may grow obsolete over time but that does not affect the efficacy of the product if it is opened two months from now or right now. However, the business that needs to follow FIFO may have a difference between those time frames because of potency or expiration dates. Why does a push back rack not do well with a FIFO styled business? The reason why is because a push back rack puts the newest product arriving in the warehouse in front of older products that have already arrived in the warehouse. That fact alone means that a business that needs to follow first in first out inventory systems will have trouble maintaining efficacy and potency of the product because of the way the rack is designed. However, that does not mean that you do not find businesses that have expiration dates on their products using push back racks. In fact, there have been several beverage businesses that have selected push back racks as they are racking of choice. It is important to note that these businesses have a high volume of customers. Therefore, their products do not sit on the shelves very long and potency and or efficacy is not an issue for them. You might be wondering if a push back rack is still considered a pallet rack. The answer is that it is still a pallet rack. The truth of the matter is that almost every single industrial shelving unit is derived from the original pallet rack. Therefore, you find these products listed under the generalized term "pallet rack". It is similar to how Pepsi products and Coca-Cola products fall under the umbrella of soda or pop. In this case, push back rack is still a pallet rack. Moreover, if you are looking for a push back rack then you can usually find them being sold by companies that sell pallet racks. A push back rack is an evolved form of a pallet rack. People found that their pallet rack system needed changes in order to maximize the ability of the pallet rack to deliver a more automated experience. A push back rack system uses a system of specialized rollers and gravity to pull the next item in the line forward once a product leaves the rack level. Again, this happens through specialized rollers and gravity. There is no need for electricity in the system for it to do its job. As a result, the system functions well even if you have an interruption in electricity. Your workers can continue to work despite the lack of electricity because the system is doing the work. Even if you do not have a power outage then your employees do not have to spend time re-facing your rack levels. That is extra time that your employees can use to do more useful things like fulfilling more orders so that you can increase your capacity to make money and deliver orders. Another reason that the push back rack was created out of a pallet rack is that it is a higher density solution than most pallet racks. The design of the push back rack allows for a greater concentration of products or pallets on a rack level than a pallet rack. It is the reason that a lot of businesses select this type of pallet rack for their business. In fact, many businesses use a hybrid style of pallet rack that is a combination of a drive-through or drive-in rack and a push back rack. The configuration allows the business to drive into a rack to grab a product and then the pallet rack re-faces itself by pulling the next available product to the front. A business that selects a push back rack will find itself in a good position because it is an excellent solution for businesses that can follow last in first out processes. It is a high-density storage system that will save you time by re-facing itself. It is continually ready for another order through the use of special rollers and gravity. If you want to increase the efficiency of your warehouse then you should consider getting a push back rack for your company.
