Once you have pallet racks for your clothing company you have to figure out what kind of decking you will use on your pallet racks. Actually, you should have this figured out from the very get-go, but if you do not then you should consider what type of decking you will use for your racks. There are many choices and some are better than others. Some are better for certain situations and some are worse. We will try to let you know all about them and how they will work out for your company in the paragraphs below.
A lot of people opt for the wood-style decking. Actually, it is very popular in your industry. Especially if you are a client-facing company. Wood racks are, generally, more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. There are insiders in your world that also say that wood racks are better for the clothes anyway. They, supposedly, prevent wrinkles better than any other type of decking. A good thing if your customers can pick up and look at your materials when they want to do so. Of course, if they pick it up then it will likely get wrinkled anyway. Yet, there is a lot to be said of first impressions. You want to put your best foot forward when you can do so and that goes double when you are trying to convince someone that they should do business with you. Those are the good reasons you can and maybe should use a wood-based decking solution.
However, that does not mean that wood is without its downsides. Wood is flammable. Wood reacts with water which is bad if you have sprinklers activated on you. Also, the fact that it is flammable means that your local government is very likely going to get involved. They will tell you that you cannot stack your racks as highly as you would if they were made of a less-flammable material. Of course, this assumes that you are using your racks for areas away from customers. Again, wood is aesthetically pleasing but if your pallet racks are supposed to be for pure function and storage capacity then wood is not the option for you. Wood also tends to be weaker than its metal-based cousins. Therefore, you have to keep that in mind as well.
What is a good solution if you are a clothing company and you are not using your racks as a display for your customers is wire mesh decks. Wire mesh decks, standard versions, at least, handle up to 2500 lbs per level. They are also far less flammable. A good thing because that will allow you to stack more products on your racks which means you can serve more customers. They are also stronger than wood which means, if you intend on selling or passing the business down, then the decks will likely still be in good condition when the next owner gets them. As a result, your business is worth more and it can sell for a higher price.
Again, the downside is that wire mesh decks may not be as pretty as wood-based racks. Your customers may see you as a lower-tier store if they see that your product is on these kinds of shelves. Whether or not it is true does not matter because of perception. The battle of who gets the money and the purchase sometimes comes down to little things such as what your shelves look like. It really depends on your existing clientele.
